Cala del Forte Port inaugurated by Prince Albert II and other news

The Cala del Forte port was officially inaugurated by the Sovereign in the presence of Monegasque and Italian personalities. 9 months have passed since the entry of the first boat, the Tuiga, flagship sailboat of the Yacht Club de Monaco. The Prince was accompanied by the Hereditary Prince Jacques, Princess Gabriella and his niece, Camille Gottlieb.

After four years of work, initiated in 2017, the site was plagued by delays due to COVID-19 and storm Alex. A Monegasque delegation, composed of the President of the National Council, Stéphane Valeri, Marie-Pierre Gramaglia and Patrice Cellario, was also on site. Aléco Keusseoglou, President of SEPM, was the first to speak, recalling the different stages of the work.

At the beginning of the 2000s, Prince Rainier III noticed that Monegasque ports were getting crowded and cramped and requested to extend the ports elsewhere. The port of Cala del Forte is now the third link to the ports of Monaco. It has 178 mooring rings, including around 40 for units over 35 m, allowing the company to double its overall capacity for super yachts. The Monaco One shuttle, whose godmother is Camille Gottlieb, will make the connection between the Italian port and the Principality.

The Prince also spoke for his wife, who is stranded in South Africa for medical reasons, assuring that Princess Charlene would have very much liked to be at the inauguration of the port and the new rose garden which bears her name. Prince Albert II cut the traditional ribbon alongside the mayor of Ventimiglia, before the Monegasque and Italian anthems were played and the boats moored at the port sounded their whistles for several minutes in celebration.

Princely visit to Rainier III Academy

Prince Albert II visited the site of the Rainier III Academy to observe the progress of the ongoing repairs. The Prince was in the company of Mayor Georges Marsan and his deputy Karyn Ardisson Salopek, as well as Marie-Pierre Gramaglia.

The academy was closed last September due to leakage which caused heavy damage, forcing the start of the school year to be postponed. During the renovations, administrative teams of the Rainier III Academy, with the support of Monaco’s City Hall, found other spaces so that students could continue their musical education.

The Sovereign was welcomed to the site by Jade Sapolin, director of the Academy and Anthony de Sevelinges, head of Public Buildings Maintenance Service, who led the visit and explained the main lines of work being carried out. Once this work is finished, the Rainier III Academy will reopen its doors in September, one year after the start of the work, and will welcome its 900 students once again.
