This was an interesting and busy week in Monaco and here is an update of what was going on in the Principality.

The most beautiful of a kaleidoscope of charming bouquets presented in Monaco were showered with awards

After a virtual edition last year, the 52nd International Bouquet Competition took place during the autumn dates of mid-October for the first time.

The competition, organised by the Garden Club of Monaco, chaired by H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover, brought together some fifty participants (amateur and professional), who competed to show on the Casino Terraces the most imagination in designing floral compositions on the theme of “Culinary art throughout the world”. A parallel competition was dedicated to children from 7 to 16 years old.

The winners of the 2021 prizes were announced at the Prince Pierre Foundation award ceremony recently. It was held at Monte-Carlo’s Opera Garnier and presented by Arnaud Merlin, writer, journalist and producer for France Musique.

Keen to support and encourage musical creativity, the Prince Pierre of Monaco Foundation has awarded the Musical Composition Prize every three years since 1960. The prize is presented to a composer for a recent work of music.

Born in Monaco on the 28th November 2001, she started swimming at the age of seven, becoming a sport champion focused on the medley, the backstroke and then on the breaststroke (since 2021). She is currently living in Paris where she attends the Faculty of Medicine.

In July 2021, she attended Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games competing on the 25th July 2021 for the Principality of Monaco in the category 100m breaststroke under the guidance of her coach, Michel Pou.

The Monte-Carlo Rally is considered by many as the world’s most iconic rally due to its mix of both glamour and danger. It runs around the Principality through spectacular scenery and always proves a mighty challenge for cars and crew alike.

Being held in winter in January, the road surfaces are often covered in snow and ice. Temperatures in the mountains are considerably lower than Monaco’s micro-climate which can be warm and sunny, even in mid-winter. 

And it’s not just the road surfaces that prove tricky, the roads wind and twist and in many places have a rock face one side and a sheer drop the other.

After all a cat wouldn’t be human if it’s rhythm had’t been upset by Covid – especially those beauties who regularly preen themselves in competition. So it was “purring with delight” that prize feline pets took to Fontvielle to strut their stuff in front of judges including the best of the Burmese and Bengal favourites. 

Hundreds of cats on show in front of an international jury, in the hope for their breeders to garner valuable points in the pursuit of international recognition and prizes. 

Amended Budget thanks to Monaco’s Profitable Summer

Monaco’s government and National Council held a public budget meeting recently to amend the original 2021 budget. The results were a lot more promising than expected. After an initial budget showed a deficit of 114.50 million euros for 2021, the government reduced this number to €71.5 million on 30 June and finally brought the number down to €8.8 million. A difference of €105.7 million!

Russian National Team Looks to AS Monaco to Boost Their Chances for the World Cup

Valeri Karpin the manager of the Russian national football team has spotted unique talent within the AS Monaco squad that he has wanted to tap into to boost Russia’s soccer chances in preparing for the World Cup. Russia had already had a good start in qualifying for the World Cup being tied for second with Croatia after six games. 

It is Aleksandr Golovin, of course, who the Russian coach has called up. Aleksandr recently distinguished himself as the most valuable player (MVP) for his 100th match with AS Monaco wearing number 17 for the Red and Whites.
